What Is This I Don't Even-

America. Home of the free and the brave....... and the Kardasians, the "Real" Housewives, and our new overlord, the great and powerful Trixie  Honey Boo Boo Child. Reality television anybody?

Through the popular and glamorous vision of Hollywood, Americans are being stupefied as well as misrepresented(to the rest of the world) by the constant stream of inappropriate behavior and obscene material featured on reality television. This category mainly focuses around shows like Keeping up With the Kardasians where these people live there lives in front of the camera.

For the most part, they could be described as harmless trash, but these “fabulous” examples of American success are what our generation has for role models. The mindless self indulgence of unintelligible garbage has started bleeding into what it means to be truly successful, destroying the meaning and foundation of the American dream, which has driven our country to the top of the food chain. Dramatic? Yes. True? Absolutely!

If you disagree, you should ask yourself “Why are the Kardasians famous?” The truth is that it's not fame, it's infamy. They didn't make their fame themselves, rather they fed off the fame of others. According to people magazine(we can trust them, right?) father was the lawyer who defended OJ Simpson in the 1990s and in the early 2000s, Kim Kardasian made a sex tape with the famous hip hop artist Ray J as well as hanging out with Paris Hilton. Putting two and two together, they didn't make their fame, rather they fed on the fame of others and climbed the infamy ladder.

Another guilty instance is Hollywood is making the “Real” Housewives of *insert place here*, into the real house wives and husbands of America. This means that, from the outside world, Americans are obnoxious, rich, and self entitled. Not all of us are like that. I hope.

Of course, we can't blame it all on the “Real” Housewives. There are other groups of “real” people who are guilty of said fraudulence as well. Take the bad girls club for example. If you aren't familiar with them, Bravo puts of bunch of troubled young ladies into the same house to live together. It ends about as well as one would expect.

Their constant bickering, drama, physical altercations, and whatever this is are becoming accepted as “regular” or “amusing” behavior.

Recent shows such as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo among other redneck related topics(it's becoming a fad) are glamorizing not only a lack of common sense, but an unhealthy and generally disgusting lifestyle.

It's far more than simple entertainment. They are setting a low bar for our youth to strive for, reducing the quality of their person. Why work towards something meaningful when you could be just as famous for becoming King or Queen of the internet trolls.

Taking a snapshot of television at the current point in time would reveal a grim and ugly future for American society. If you strive to be like these people, maybe you should re-think your priorities. I mean you really don't want to be like them, do you? Rich, but never happy with anything? Obnoxious and not liked by anyone? Angry and constantly fighting with people? Just some food for thought, now if you'll excuse me, I must get back to something far more productive(that's a joke by the way).
